Students at Woodsboro High School are targeted by a slasher, Ghostface, as the remaining students contemplate horror film conventions when it becomes apparent that paying attention to movie clichés may save their lives. Those that stray, die. Self-referential to a level not before seen, good character development and true suspense make this one of the best horror films of the 1990s. Responsible for an unfortunate revival of the horror genre, much of it dreck.
