ABSTRACT
Inspired by the real-life career of former White House butler Eugene Allen, The Butler tells the tale of how Cecil Gaines, an African-American man from a humble background, served in various capacities as a White House serviceman from 1952 to 1986, rising through the ranks from "pantry man" to maitre d'hotel and witnessing key events affecting eight separate Presidential administrations in the process.
