CAST REVIEWS Review by Barry Rosenberg (posted on 16-Jul-2007) It's difficult to believe that there are people who find flaws in this film. The peculiar behavior of Elaine May as the not-too-upset widow, the disgruntled annoyance on the George Segal character, Joseph Wiseman as the disgusted Jew who must ride in a GERMAN car... the old VW Beetle owned by the Sorrel Brooke character... a failed author who is harassed by kids on the street messing with his beloved VW. The film peaks in two ways... George Segal's soliloquy in the cemetery, telling the dead beneath the headstones about the sad state of society since they died. Finally, everything by Godfrey Cambridge is good. A black cab driver speaking with Jewish phrases and cadence is so right for a black raised in a Jewish community. All in all, it's a tremendously successful satire, and I dearly wish I could buy a DVD of it... but it seems nobody realizes what a great film it is, and therefore nobody has marketed a DVD. Sad, sad, sad. It's a great film if you have an open mind.
