A bellhop in St. Louis with Union sympathies captures an important Confederate spy, The Gray Spider, then is asked to impersonate him. He is given two documents: phony plans, and instructions for another Union spy; to remember which is which, "The paper's in the pocket of the boot with the buckle. The map's in the packet in the pocket of the jacket." You can guess what happens. Nonstop rapid-fire slapstick in Red Skelton's most successful film.
