John Travolta is Chili Palmer, a mobster from Miami temporarily in Hollywood to collect a $15,000 debt. He also applies pressure to producer Harry Zimm, played by Gene Hackman, who owes a casino $150,000. Palmer's contact with Zimm gives him the movie bug; he plans the production of Mr. Lovejoy, with money raised from a variety of unsavory sources. Clever satire of Hollywood equating the world of organized crime with the film industry. Followed by a sequel, Be Cool (2005).
