Review by Striker5 (posted on 14-Aug-2007)

Romeo is Bleeding is a so-so entry into the neo noir category, driven by memorable performances by Lena Olin and a (relatively) subdued Gary Oldman. The story is told from the perspective of Jack (Oldman), a police officer who has sold out to the mafia and is cheating on his wife (Annabella Sciorra) with his ditzy mistress (Juliette Lewis). His corruption bottoms out when the information he passes his mob employers results in the deaths of fellow police officers at the hands of a maniacal Russian hit woman Mona (Olin). Once captured, the job of transporting Olin falls to Jack who is alternately seduced, bribed, and intimidated after coming into contact with her. Jack's relationship with Mona runs afoul with the local mob boss (Roy Scheider) and violence, adultery and amputations ensue. Great central performances are dragged down by an uneven tone and lukewarm supporting characters. The central idea of moral degradation and seduction is forcefully played out by the two leads, but the rest of the movie is not up to the task. Lena Olin is absolutely riveting in her sexy creepiness. She steals the movie from Oldman, which is no small feat. Bottom line: Enjoyable bloody pulp.
