REVIEWS Review by Movie Fan (posted on 25-Mar-2005) Off the Map is one of those rarities from Hollywood -- a genuine surprise. At no time during this film does one have any idea of what's coming next. The sound/music which accompanies is so integral, one doesn't even notice it until the wife/mother character calls attention to it as an integral part of the story. In one scene the sound of hoot owls is actually listened to. The pace of this movie is slow, but then it's set at a time and place of life-in-its-own-time. The set design is exquisite with every part of daily life visible and realistic and beautiful. All of this supports both the lovely story of an unusual family, and the actors who bring it all to life. What an absolute joy!
