In a dystopian future, paperwork runs rampant with transactions sent from bureaucrat to bureaucrat via pneumatic tubes. Sam Lowry exists in this world, a minor cog in the vast hegemonic apparatus of the Ministry of Information, escaping only his his dreams to rescue an angelic girl. An attempt to correct a procedural oversight cascades out of control and he encounters what appears to be the girl in his dream. Highly original, visually astonishing, and strangely disquieting. Received Oscar nominations for Best Screenplay and Best Set Decoration. Unfortunately three versions of this film exist, director's cut, studio release, and TV edit.
