Paths of Glory (25-Dec-1957)
Director: Stanley Kubrick Writers: Stanley Kubrick; Calder Willingham; Jim Thompson From novel: Paths of Glory by Humphrey Cobb Music: Gerald Fried Producer: James B. Harris Keywords: Drama, WWI In the stalemate of WWI France, a regiment is ordered in a suicide mission over the trenches to take the heavily fortified German "Anthill", merely so that a general, Mireau, might have the possibility of a promotion. When many soldiers refuse, Mireau orders his artillery to open fire on his own men; they refuse citing a lack of written orders. Three representatives of the regiment are selected to be placed on trial for cowardice, and sentenced to death. Superb anti-war film is one of Kubrick's most memorable.
