ABSTRACT The humble Kadam family, native to India, move from their homeland to a village in the south of France to start a restaurant called the Maison Mumbai. The new restaurant sits a hundred feet away from the esteemed Le Saule Pleureur restaurant run by the cold Madame Mallory, causing tension when she protests the presence of a new "ethnic" offering in her midst. Over time, however, young Maison Mumbai chef Hassan Kadam's taste for French cuisine and romantic interest in Le Saule Pleureur sous chef Marguerite leads Mallory to take the young man under her wing as part of a most unlikely friendship.
