ABSTRACT Lou Ford, a deputy sheriff in a small town in early-1950s west Texas, enjoys a favorable reputation within his community due to his affable persona and perceived reliability in his line of work. Unbeknownst to his peers and fellow townsfolk at first, however, Lou maintains a hidden existence as a nymphomaniacal sociopath, something that leads to his unmasking and eventual downfall when he uses his job to act on his perversions and sends his coworkers on a gory trail filled with sex games and a rising body count.
