REVIEWS Review by Elisabeth (posted on 22-Feb-2005) This movie is a true work of art. The cast is masterfully assembled and believable in their characters.
For 1959, the theme of the movie took on some very sensitive racial and inter-racial themes and presented them with sensitivity and conviction. The friendship portrayed between "Miss Lora" (Turner) and "Annie" (Moore) will not leave a dry eye among viewers. The pathos between Annie and her daughter, Sarah Jane (Kohner), will tug at every mother's heartstrings. As well, Susie's (Dee) struggle to come to terms with a famous and driven mother will ignite memories with parents of their own children's realizations that parents are very real people with human foibles.
John Gavin, who plays heart-throb Steve, is as handsome as ever!
