All the reviews anyone has read over the years (in reference to the 2 LP soundtrack or the performance) discover that authors can never nail down what the 'buzz was' about Presley's most celebrated performance in television history. Yes, indeed, it did make television history. Sure, let's check the historical record for a moment; to mention two examples, Muhammed Ali, the world champion's matches were beamed via satellite, and the Beatles were also beamed in the late 60s too. But, Elvis' performance from the islands on Jan. 14, 1973 captured "the moment". Was it pop kitsch rolled up into a glossy vegas presentation? Who was Elvis by 1973? What status did he enjoy during this period? Set aside all of the gossip, rumors and tell-all books based on this period of Elvis' personal and professional life. None of this matters. Elvis draws in his viewer to the magic of this master as only Elvis could and can do. What matters from this author's viewpoint is the delivery of Elvis' vocal. Elvis could sing them all. Everyone will find a favorite song in this performance. Elvis collectors and the world at large were "stuck" with the 90 minute release since 1973 until the powers that be returned to the studios proper to remaster and release a DVD version a couple of years ago. For the casual music fan or hard core Elvis audiophile. Discover why the marquee in the 70s indicated, "Elvis: King of Entertainment" You will not be disappointed.
