ABSTRACT
Casey Carlyle, an intelligent young woman and high-school bookworm, struggles to balance her dreams of excelling as a figure skater with her overbearing mother's own wishes for her to pursue an Ivy League education and subsequent gainful employment. Serendipity transpires in the form of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train with a prodigious young figure skater and her coach (her mother and a disgraced ex-skater), prompting Casey to spurn her mom's overtures as she places a bet on her own aspirations.
