CAST REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 22-Aug-2006) Simply stunning in terms of
the acting, scenery and score. From the opening the rousing score
suggests impending doom and foreboding. The viewer is quickly lulled
into a false sense of serenity as the camera concentrates on the
immortal beauty of Helen (Gene Tierney) asleep. The story unfolds to
reveal Helen as a jealous and selfish creature who will destroy
anything threatening her total dominance of Richard (Cornel Wilde).
Helens' obesession is heightened by the fact that she percieves Richard
as the re-incarnation of her recently deceased father whom she adored
and "smothered to death". The victims of the tragic chain of events
unfolding include Ruth, Helen's step sister played superbly by Jeanne
Crain and Danny, Richard's younger crippled brother. Although the film
doesn't follow the book exactly, there is very little lost in the way
of a key storyline and the intensity required. "Back of the Moon" is
the perfect location where most of the action is based. One slight
criticism would be that Cornel Wilde's acting is rather wooden in
places where the drama is unfolding, otherwise it is a classic thriller.
