REVIEWS Review by kay (posted on 9-Feb-2009) For anyone who experienced the late 70s... the 'good girl' by day... 'bad girl' by night, this movie will ring too true. Dedicated and reserved elementary school teacher to deaf children [does it get more selfless?] turns into clubbing woman on the prowl at night with no scruples. for who she picks up...feeling less than perfect and constantly compared to her older sister by her parents. She forgets reality, wasting nights with meaningless sex, drugs, alcohol. Her lack of concern for safety pushes the boundaries of the 'disco era -Studio 54' mindset. Her apt. is shabby, boasting only a tattered mattress on the floor, vintage ice box, and sleazy mobile of stained glass figures, hanging from the ceiling. Her life ends at the hands of one of her 'studs',while a black light flashes violently thru the darkness of her apt. In her defense, she's an excellent, loving, caring teacher who is able to reach a particulary withdrawn hearing impaited young girl.
Review by anonymous (posted on 26-Jan-2007) Looking for Mr. Goodbar Starring Diane Keaton, et al. Looking for Mr. Goodbar's screenplay was adapted from a book that was a mild cultural phenom. in the early 1970's. The Plot is that Diane Keaton's character is an Elemetary School teacher, that is fairly buttoned up. But upon discovering an ailment is hereditary decides to have a hysterectomy to render herself sterile, so that she may never bring a child into this world so like afflicted. Upon having the burdon of unwanted pregnancy aleved, her fear of casual sex wanes. She delves into a seamy atmosphere of the city's night clubs and all too ready Lounge Lizards. The title is about her search for a meaningful relationship, ...SEX FIRST. Of course, the moral dilema of its day is lost in today's sexual cesspool. She "hooks-up" with several bizarre cameos, and discovers how shallow her lifestyle really has become. When, in a situation, the realization of this truth hits her, she laughs at the absurdity, and is mistaken to have laughed at the prowess of her partner, who then, wigs out, and enacts revenge. After the conclusion of the film, we are left to presume her slutty lifestyle is then presumably splayed before all those who thought she was a quiet, Elementary School teacher.
