ABSTRACT
Inspired by Herbert Asbury's 1928 non-fiction book of the same name, Gangs of New York is an elaborate, dramatic, and sometimes messy historical epic regaling viewers with a tale of how modern-day New York City's roots came to plant themselves in the ground, following crime boss-cum-machine politician Bill "The Butcher" Cutting as he engages in actions under the stewardship of political kingpin Boss Tweed that would ultimately shape the destiny of America's foremost big city.
