ABSTRACT
The mysterious story behind Jan Vermeer's masterwork Girl with a Pearl Earring receives a screen treatment in this film bearing its name, combining history with fiction to tell a tale of peasant maid Griet and her unlikely job as a model for Vermeer at the behest of monied benefactor Van Ruijven. Danger rules the day for young Griet as she attempts to pose for Vermeer's painting without the knowledge of his wife while maneuvering herself out of a tryst with Van Ruijven after the work is completed.
