Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (19-May-2007)
Director: Gore Verbinski Writers: Ted Elliott; Terry Rossio Keywords: Action/Adventure Third entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise explores the Black Pearl crew's adventures rescuing Jack Sparrow and resisting attempts to exterminate piracy.
ABSTRACT Second sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003). The scrappy crew of the Black Pearl continue on from where their box office-busting swashbuckling endeavors in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest left of, performing battle against nefarious elements from the land of the dead to rescue Jack Sparrow. After successfully accomplishing their first objective, the crew must face off opposite the East India Trading Company, a shadowy conglomerate working in tandem with Davy Jones and his Flying Dutchman to put a stop to mortal piracy once and for all.
REVIEWS Review by eauclaireliberal (posted on 3-Jun-2007) Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is a lot like the Star Wars prequels...it sucked.
The Curse of the Black Pearl was a good story, great acting, and as a tale, managed to stand on its own.
Then came Dead Man's Chest. Which you have to see more than once to understand what the hell is going on. And you have to see that in order to get an idea of what Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is all about. Calypso was Davvy Jones' lover? Yeah, okay...it would have been nice to know that at the begining of the film instead of in the middle (you know, to have some kind of continuity).
Like the Star Wars prequels, At World's End is just another way for shoddy moviemakers to siphon your cash. In my case, the only reason I saw it was because of the Mrs.' obsession with the Pirates' stories. With any luck, Depp's career won't take too much of a beating over this.
