CAST REVIEWS Review by Laurent Ruisseaux (posted on 17-Jun-2007) Jack Palance's layered, nuanced performance should have won him an Oscar. Rod Steiger was the quintessence of evil; he made my stomach churn and my skin crawl. Ida Lupino was totally believable as the long-suffering wife who had finally had enough of playing second fiddle to her husband's acting career and his infidelity. Shelley Winter's agonizing portrayal of the used, abused, and refused Hollywood tramp nearly brought me to tears. Her character's hatred of film producers and the studio system drew sympathy for her reckless, destructive behavior. This film is a classic sleeper, one of the best of the film noir genre.
