ORGANIZATION

Major league basketball circuit founded 1967, folded 1976 with four teams (the Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, New York Nets, and San Antonio Spurs) entering the National Basketball Association. Fondly remembered for its red white and blue basketball, a freewheeling style of play, and innovations including the three-point shot and All-Star slam-dunk contest. Not to be confused with a present-day minor league basketball circuit of the same name.
