Jerome I. Friedman AKA Jerome Isaac Friedman Born: 28-Mar-1930 Birthplace: Chicago, IL
Gender: Male Religion: Agnostic Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Physicist Nationality: United States Executive summary: Verified existence of quarks Experimental particle physicist Jerome I. Friedman has said he was drawn to science by reading Albert Einstein's Relativity: The Special and General Theory while he was in high school. He studied under Enrico Fermi at the University of Chicago, and investigated particle structure and interactions of high energy electrons, neutrinos, and hadrons. Friedman is best known for a series of experiments conducted at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center in 1967-73, which established the theoretical existence of quarks, sub-microscopic energy packets that are building blocks for protons and neutrons, and were believed to be the fundamental particles of matter. With his colleagues in these experiments, Henry W. Kendall and Richard E. Taylor, Friedman won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1990.
