Christopher Monckton AKA Christopher Walter Monckton Born: 14-Feb-1952 Birthplace: England
Gender: Male Religion: Roman Catholic Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Politician Party Affiliation: Independent Nationality: England Executive summary: Deputy Leader, UK Independence Party Christopher Monckton, a/k/a Lord Monckton, is the 3rd Viscount Monckton of Brenchley in the County of Kent, and the Deputy Leader of the UK Independence Party. He expected to become a hereditary peer in the British House of Lords, but in 1999 most hereditary positions in the upper house of British parliament were abolished. Monckton has unsuccessfully campaigned four times for election to one of the now-limited number of hereditary seats in the House of Lords.
He is best known in the UK and world-wide as an outspoken skeptic of climate change theory, though he has no credentials in science — his college education was in literature and journalism. He served as an unofficial policy advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on economic matters, and he has worked as a reporter, editor, and haberdasher, and created two popular geometry puzzles.
Still, Monckton may be the most widely cited skeptic of anthropogenic climate change, and he says what many people seem to want to hear. In 2010 he testified before the US House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, and more than twenty scientists with relevant degrees and credentials deemed virtually every aspect of his testimony "nonsense", "profoundly wrong", "very misleading", and "simply false", but those who strongly dispute the science of global climate change praised Monckton's remarks as a thorough thrashing of the hoaxers.
He has also proposed lifelong quarantine for all persons who test positive for AIDS, and expressed sympathy for the purported "birther" conspiracy, popular among the American right-wing fringe, which maintains that Barack Obama was born in Kenya instead of Hawaii. Monckton is a grandson of Walter Monckton.
