Wyman won the original election by just 355 votes; Durkin demanded a recount, resulting in his victory by a margin of 10 votes. Wyman demanded another recount, and was found by the election commission to have won by just two votes. Cotton resigned on 31 December, and Wyman was appointed by Gov.
