Isadora Duncan AKA Angela Isadora Duncan
Born: 26-May-1877 [1] Birthplace: San Francisco, CA Died: 14-Sep-1927 Location of death: Nice, France Cause of death: Accident - Automobile [2] Remains: Cremated, Cimetière du Père Lachaise, Paris, France
Gender: Female Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Bisexual Occupation: Dancer Nationality: United States Executive summary: Mother of modern dance [1] Duncan's birth records were destroyed in the aftermath of the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906, but there is a baptismal record indicating a birth as "Angela I. Duncan" on 26 May 1877. Many sources indicate that she was born one day later, on the 27th, but there are no physical records to back this up. Some sources also indicate "Dora" as a given name but in light of the above baptismal record, it is clearly a diminutive of "Isadora." See Ann Daly, Done into Dance: Isadora Duncan in America (1995), page 225.
[2] Died after the very long scarf she was wearing became entangled in the wheels of her Bugatti sports car, throwing her from the vehicle and strangling her.
