[1] Originally a Democrat, he was stripped of the 1916 Democratic gubernatorial nomination after the Florida Supreme Court ordered a recount. He subsequently ran that year under the banner of the Prohibition Party, winning the election. The only other person to hold office from this party was Charles Hiram Randall, who served in Congress 1915-21, California 9th District.
