Executive summary: Inventor of the magnetron tube

Inventor of a number of vacuum tubes, including the dynatron, the pliodynatron, the thyratron, and the magnetron. This last tube provided 15,000 watts of power and was controlled magnetically, suitable for amplifiers or oscillators, and particularly useful for radar. These tube designs were particularly important for his employer General Electric, since key patents were held by Lee De Forest and Edwin H. Armstrong. Other work he did involved X-Ray analysis of crystals.
