Vurm became Carlos Torres Argentino, later shortened. In the late 1950s he traveled throughout Latin America with Sonora Matancera, a Cuban ensemble who initially thought he was Cuban. When not singing, Argentino raced thoroughbred horses. After a distinguished and lengthy career, he died in 1991 at a racetrack in Buenos Aires.
