In partnership his brother Rudolph "Rudi" Dassler, he established the Dassler Brothers Shoe Company, which garnered respect with shoes made for the 1928 Olympics. Dassler handmade the shoes Jesse Owens wore while dashing to four Gold Medals in the 1936 Olympics. In World War II both brothers were reportedly members of the Nazi Party. After the war they had a falling out, and Rudi withdrew from their partnership to establish his own shoe company, Puma, while Adi Dassler incorporated his business as Adidas AG in 1949. They never spoke to each other again. Adi Dassler's son Horst founded Arena brand swimming equipment, and developed the modern concept of corporate sponsorships of major sporting events. Adi and Rudolph Dassler are buried in their hometown's cemetery, on opposite sides of the graveyard.
