Executive summary: Co-Host, Morning Joe Republican, Scarborough resigned from Congress shortly before one of his aides, Lori Klausutis, was found dead in his office. Her death was ruled "heart failure" but her autopsy indicated skull fractures. For four years he was host of MSNBC's Scarborough Country, where he would often resort to shouting down guests with whom he disagreed, either not wanting to hear what they said or perhaps painfully aware of the thinness of his own positions. To Scarborough's credit, Morning Joe, co-hosted with Mika Brzezinski, is a substantial improvement in format, content, and approach.
Scarborough told the Pensacola News Journal in September 2001: "It is spread all over the Internet right now that my staff member [Lori Klausutis], who died tragically a month ago, was killed by me. I could list a thousand conspiracy theories against me: that I rig elections; that I have a drug-running outfit with the CIA; that I'm a murderer; that I have 15 illegitimate children."
