John Ensign called on President Bill Clinton to resign over his affair with staffer Monica Lewinsky, stating "he has no credibility left." Later, Ensign made sexual morality an issue in his 1998 campaign against Harry Reid, taking the high ground by accusing Reid of having a "double standard" when it came to the treatment of Oregon Senator Bob Packwood versus that of Clinton[2]. Of course, Packwood's actions were actual incidents of sexual misconduct subject to sanction by Congress, as opposed to Clinton's simple infidelity. But the tables turned on 16 June 2009, when Ensign convened a press conference to admit that he himself had an extramarital affair with a married campaign staffer.[3]
