Employed at WAG, a Polish state graphics agency, after exposure to the West he was hired by Elle as an art director, and then gained employment at an ad agency, MAFIA, 1969-72. In his work he has used a number of techniques, notably collage and typography, to achieve startling results. Cieslewicz was a resident of France from 1963 until his death in 1996. In an interview with Margo Rouard, he expressed the lack of importance of the modern poster: "Posters need powerful occasions and significant subjects, which they don't find at the moment.
