Brent Bozell AKA Leo Brent Bozell III Born: 14-Jul-1955 Birthplace: Washington, DC
Gender: Male Religion: Roman Catholic Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Activist Party Affiliation: See Note [1] Nationality: United States Executive summary: Media Research Center In 1987, Brent Bozell III founded the conservative Media Research Center, which calls itself "the largest media watchdog organization in America" and publishes the right-tilted news critiquing Newsbusters blog. MRC claims to have made "media bias" a familiar expression, and indeed, the group has convinced millions of Americans that network newscasts and major newspapers have always been slanted against conservatives from Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush, while such liberals as Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have been given kid-glove treatment.
His father was a speechwriter for Senator Joseph McCarthy and the ghostwriter of Barry Goldwater's magnum opus The Conscience of a Conservative. His uncle was the conservative commentator William F. Buckley, and his maternal grandfather, William F. Buckley Sr., made a fortune in oil and was one of the wealthiest men of the twentieth century. His paternal grandfather, Leo Bozell, was co-founder of Bozell Worldwide, one of the world's most successful advertising agencies, famous for its "Got milk?" ads, as well as memorable campaigns for Chrysler, Excedrin, Merrill Lynch, and the National Pork Producers Council ("Pork: The other white meat").
Bozell is Executive Director of the Conservative Victory Committee, a political action committee that claims credit for electing dozens of conservative candidates. He is a member of the Council for National Policy, and sits on the board of the American Conservative Union. In 1995 he started the Parents Television Council, dedicated to "protecting children against entertainment sex, violence and profanity." In recent years, PTC's pleas for concerned parents to file complaints about allegedly salacious programming on TV and radio have been responsible for about 99% of the complaints received at the Federal Communications Commission.
He is also on the board of Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, a group whose stated purpose is to fight anti-Catholic prejudice. The Catholic League regularly issues press releases complaining about the use of "Seasons Greetings" and urging the return to "Merry Christmas", ridiculing multiculturalism and "political correctness run amok", and protesting such "anti-Christian" Hollywood fare as the comedy Dogma and the horror film Black Christmas. The group is not affiliated with the Catholic Church.
In 1998 Bozell founded the Conservative News Service, an alternative to news offered by more mainstream sources, which has since changed its name to Cybercast News Service. He is also a co-founder of ForAmerica, which describes itself as "The nation's largest, active online conservative network with over 7.3 million supporters."
In 2003 Bozell's groups were at the forefront of the fight that convinced CBS not to telecast its mini-series The Reagans, and during the 2004 Presidential campaign, Bozell spent upwards of $3M on billboards and a talk-radio blitz built around the motto, "Don't believe the liberal media." He is also a nationally-syndicated writer, and his opinion column regularly appears in the Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and hundreds of other newspapers.
