Former real estate attorney and state legislator who defeated Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley to succeed deceased Senator Ted Kennedy in 2010, becoming the first Republican elected to the Senate from Massachusetts since the 1970s. Defeated when he ran for a full Senate term in 2012, and succeeded by Elizabeth Warren, after which he was quickly hired as a Fox News commentator, and moved to New Hampshire, where he unsuccessfully ran to be a US Senator from that state.
