Chosen by the 49ers (from an NCAA Division III school no less) as a first-round draft pick, by 1987 he was named NFL Player of the Year. Rice brought home Super Bowl rings in 1988 (MVP), 1989, and 1994. He holds the record for scoring the most touchdowns in NFL history, as well as many Wide Receiver records. During his career he played in the Pro Bowl 13 times. Released in 2001 to the Oakland Raiders, they kept him for several seasons and traded him to the Seattle Seahawks. After one year there he joined the Denver Broncos, but after his preseason performance, their role for him was not agreeable to his tastes, and he announced his retirement on 5 September 2005. Most observers concur that Rice is the greatest wide receiver in NFL history, as well as one of its best players.
