Peter Marshall AKA Pierre LaCock Born: 30-Mar-1930 Birthplace: Huntington, WV
Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Game Show Host Nationality: United States Executive summary: The Hollywood Squares Peter Marshall started in show business as a "boy singer" with saxophone-playing bandleader Bob Chester. He worked as a disc jockey in Italy, before joining Tommy Noonan as Noonan & Marshall, a night club comedy team of limited renown in the 1950s. Noonan & Marshall had tiny bit parts together in films dating back to Holiday Rhythm (1950) and Starlift (1951), appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, and eventually headlined two films that both flopped, The Rookie (1960) and Swingin' Along (1961). Noonan & Marshall both had more movie success apart than together. Noonan was a respected character actor who went on to produce some of Hollywood's first mainstream films featuring nudity. Marshall got good reviews for Ensign Pulver (1964) and The Cavern (1965), and was a rising star on the dramatic stage before television beckoned.
Marshall hosted the first Hollywood Squares from 1966-1981. He also hosted Storybook Squares for kids, with a similar range of celebrities playing historical or fairy tale figures. He wrote and appeared in Maryjane, a 1968 cautionary tale about marijuana in our high schools, starring another cautionary tale, Fabian. Marshall also hosted the game shows All-Star Blitz and Yahtzee, and he hosted a deadly dance contest in the 1993 Swedish film Sista dansen. In semi-retirement, Marshall has hosted a daily radio show of big band music, and released his first album, Boy Singer, in 2000, crooning the same standards he sang as a teen. In December 2002, Marshall briefly took over Tom Bergeron's Hollywood Squares during "game show week", bumping Bergeron into the center square. And he has written his autobiography, Backstage with the Original Hollywood Square.
