The bodies were buried in shallow graves on Saddleworth Moor, Manchester, leading the crimes to be referred to as the Moors Murders. Hindley was sentenced to life imprisonment on 6 May 1966. News of her crimes was received with horror by the public, to the extent that the name Myra was all but abandoned.
