Dave Greenslade Born: 18-Jan-1943 Birthplace: Woking, Surrey, England
Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: White Occupation: Musician Nationality: England Executive summary: Jazz/prog keyboard player After performing in a number of R&B bands throughout the early 1960s, Dave Greenslade co-founded the band Colosseum. During the band's three-year lifetime Greenslade would become the primary songwriter, composing ambitious pieces such as the 17-minute Valentyne Suite. Diverging interests caused Colosseum's members to disband in 1971.
Next came the project Greenslade, which proved only slightly more enduring and productive. Greenslade was unusual in being a "prog" band that did not make use of guitars, although towards the end of its existence a guitarist was finally brought on board. After calling an end to the band in 1975, Greenslade worked for a while under his own name -- most notably releasing the lavish double-concept album The Pentateuch Of The Cosmogony (1979), profusely illustrated by fantasy artist Patrick Woodroffe. The album was initailly a commercial flop, but has since gone on to be a popular item among collectors.
In subsequent years, Dave Greenslade has established himself as a composer for BBC Television, although both Colosseum and Greenslade have been resurrected at different times during the 1990s. Colosseum Keyboardist 1968-71;1994-present Greenslade Keyboardist 1972-75;2000-present
