Ghyslain Raza Born: c. 1988 Birthplace: Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada
Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: White Occupation: Meme Nationality: Canada Executive summary: The Star Wars Kid In 2002, Canadian teenager Ghyslain Raza filmed himself acting out scenes from the movie Star Wars, goofing around with an imaginary light saber. Other students discovered Raza's work, created using school equipment. In 2003, the embarassing material was placed on global file-sharing networks, branding him The Star Wars Kid. Within days, the release made the clumsy teen momentarily famous for his taped antics. Artists and other wags released versions of the video with special effects or mashed with other movies. The media reported his pain and suffering, and articles began to appear in the Sydney Morning Herald, BBC and CBS News.
The video itself is really quite painful to watch. Some viewers sympathized with the teen; various websites dedicated themselves to buying him an Apple iPod (which he received) and to have him included in the final Star Wars film (he was not). Raza did not at all appreciate having his screen test released to the world. In 2003, a lawsuit was filed against his classmates for harassment and distributing the video without consent.
