Dana Delany AKA Dana Welles Delany Born: 13-Mar-1956 Birthplace: Manhattan, NY
Gender: Female Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Actor Party Affiliation: Democratic Nationality: United States Executive summary: China Beach Delany has said she wanted to act since she was three years old, mostly to get attention from her parents. She started in soap operas, Love of Life in the late 1970s and As the World Turns in the early '80s. She was featured in a quickly-canceled mid-80s sit-com, Sweet Surrender, but she was still relatively unknown in 1988 when chosen over Helen Hunt for the role of Nurse McMurphy on the Vietnam war drama China Beach. The show was well-written and acted, critically acclaimed, and never jumped the shark. Delany won two Emmys, and deserved them.
After China Beach ended in 1991, Delany faded into odd or small roles, mostly on television and in independent films. She was featured with Dan Aykroyd in the ludicrous S&M comedy Exit to Eden, and starred in an unnecessary TV remake of an Ellen Burstyn movie, Resurrection. She played Margaret Sanger in a Lifetime biopic, Choices of the Heart, and she has been the cartoon and video game voice of Superman's girlfriend Lois Lane since 1996. She also voiced Batman/Bruce Wayne's girlfriend in the 1993 cartoon Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
Her grandfather, John J. Delany, invented the Delany valve, a component still used in today's flush toilets. The family name lives on at Coyne & Delany of Charlottesville, VA, where they manufacture bathtubs, flush tanks, fittings and ballcocks.
