Executive summary: Three Six Mafia Half of Memphis-based hip hop crew Three Six Mafia, perhaps the most successful artist collective of the late 20th century. Jordan began producing music as Juicy J in his teens, recording and selling mixtapes with his childhood friend DJ Paul. Their early music innovated in the growing genre of horrorcore rap, leading to their dark debut full-length Mystic Stylez (1995) and the club anthem Tear The Club Up.
Persistent work over the next decade, combined with a focused and constant output for his main group and promotion of affiliated Memphis acts, led to a record contract with Sony and several gold and platinum records. They broke out in 2000, with the single Sippin' on Some Syrup, and their success was crowned by the 2005 single Stay Fly from the album Most Known Unknown. Three Six Mafia won an Oscar in 2006 for a song contributed to the film Hustle and Flow, which led to their own reality TV show Adventures in Hollyhood.
Not content with success, Juicy J has shown no sign of stopping, lending his energy and business acumen to younger artists. Work in the 2010s includes the Rubba Band Business mixtapes with teenaged trap music producer Lex Luger, an affiliation with Wiz Khalifa's Taylor Gang, and the single Bands a Make Her Dance which was a radio hit in late summer 2012.
