It can best be described as "wild." The book was re-released to mass market in 1980, and then adapted into the 1995 film, The Basketball Diaries starring Leonardo DiCaprio. In the 1970s, Carroll did some work for Andy Warhol, writing dialogue for films. The Jim Carroll band released several albums, notable of which was Catholic Boy (1980), containing the single that earned him the most airplay, "People Who Died." A critically acclaimed poet admired by Ginsberg and Kerouac, Carroll published six volumes of poetry, but never finished his novel. He died at his Manhattan home in 2009 from a heart attack.
