Before becoming a writer of evangelical tracts, Chick worked as a technical illustrator for AstroScience Inc., a defense contractor based in Los Angeles, CA. Originally Chick did all of the artwork himself, but in 1972 he began outsourcing the tract illustrations to a black pastor named Fred Carter. Carter now does all of the Chick illustrations. Not only a publisher of evangelical reading material, in 2003 Chick wrote the screenplay for The Light of the World.
