Bobby Sherman AKA Robert Cabot Sherman, Jr. Born: 22-Jul-1943 Birthplace: Santa Monica, CA
Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Singer, Actor Nationality: United States Executive summary: "Julie, Julie, Julie, Do You Love Me?" Bobby Sherman was an introverted child, rendered insecure by frequent family moves. He played football in high school, which helped bring him out of his shell, and shortly after graduation he was "discovered" when he burst into song at a Hollywood party. Within weeks he was asked to audition for Shindig, a 1960s TV show where Sherman would sing other performers' pop hits if the original artist was unable or unwilling to appear on the show. He went on to record several hits of his own, including "Little Woman", "La La La", "Easy Come, Easy Go", and "Julie, Do Ya Love Me?" He had six gold singles, and six gold albums.
Music brought him a token acting career: he played the sweet, stuttering lumberjack Jeremy Bolt on Here Come the Brides, where future Hutch David Soul played his older brother. In the early 1970s he married Patti Carmel, and when their marriage ended she married Soul, his TV brother. Sherman was also in Getting Together, a spin-off from The Partridge Family, and co-starred in a short-lived 1980s series called Sanchez of Bel Air.
Sherman was always remarkably neat and well-behaved, a 1950s-style innocent in the turbulent 60s and 70s. He was never arrested, never associated in any way with the counterculture, and never made any political stand. He now works as a reserve officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. He wears a police uniform, but carries a medical kit instead of a gun, working as an emergency medical technician (EMT) and training new EMTs. He is a sworn officer in both the LAPD and the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department, where he is also an EMT, but it is essentially volunteer work -- the pay is $50 a month, and reservists have to supply most of their own equipment and launder their own uniforms.
In the late 1990s he was one-third of the Teen Idol Tour, singing alongside Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits and Davy Jones from The Monkees.
