Others, notably Stephen Holden, "Mitchell Parish, 92, the Lyricist of Star Dust and Volare, Dies", The New York Times, 2 April 1993, state that he was born in Lithuania (then part of the Russian Empire), and came to the United States prior to his first birthday.
