Indicted on 22 January 2015 on charges of conspiracy and fraud, and access to $3.8-million held in Silver's eight bank and asset-management accounts was immediately blocked. Specific allegations include taking about $700,000 in bribes and kickbacks, and being paid more than $5-million by Weitz & Luxenberg for legal work that was never performed. Said Silver after being charged: "I'm confident that after a full hearing and a due process, I will be vindicated."
Resigned as Speaker on 2 February 2015, but did not resign from the State Assembly. Convicted on all charges 30 November 2015, which, by law, disqualified him from continuing to hold his Assembly seat.
