Muqtada al-Sadr Born: 12-Aug-1973 Birthplace: Iraq
Gender: Male Religion: Shia Muslim Race or Ethnicity: Middle Eastern Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Military, Religion Nationality: Iraq Executive summary: Militant Shiite Iraqi cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, while relatively insignificant in the religious pecking order, has acquired a large following of poorer Shiites who oppose the U.S. occupation of Iraq, many of whom are militants. At age 31 he is considered a student still, but his family has a long tradition of clerical service; the Baghdad area Sadr City is named for Muqtada's father, Mohammed. The Coalition Provisional Authority has issued an arrest warrant against Muqtada for the killing on 10 April 2003 of Abdel Majid al-Khoei, a moderate. While Muqtada has denied this, he has expressed unambiguous feelings on occupation: "Anyone supported by the United States is cursed by us."
