In June 1867 he published his first of fifteen monthly one-page stamp price lists, which evolved into the first Scott catalog, A Descriptive Catalogue of America and Foreign Postage Stamps, published in 1868. The Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue remains essential to stamp collectors, and collectible postage stamps are still referenced by their "Scott numbers".
