Félix Rodríguez AKA Félix Ismael Rodríguez Mendigutia Born: 31-May-1941 Birthplace: Havana, Cuba
Gender: Male Religion: Roman Catholic Race or Ethnicity: Hispanic Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Spy Nationality: United States Executive summary: Bay of Pigs, Iran-Contra operative Military service: Brigade 2506 (Bay of Pigs); US Army (2nd Lieutenant) Born in Havana and raised in Sancti Spíritus, he fled Cuba in 1959, just after Fidel Castro's taking power. In the United States he recruited fellow exile Luis Posada Carriles. He became a member of Brigade 2506, which infiltrated Cuba prior to the Bay of Pigs landing.
Rodriguez was part of the team that tracked down Che Guevara in Bolivia and captured him. Rodriguez interrogated him before Guevara was put to death. For a long time it was believed Guevara was killed in battle, but a photograph exists of Guevara and Rodriguez after the capture of the guerrilla.
In closed testimony to the Senate Subcommittee on Terrorism and Narcotics in 1987, Ramon Milian Rodriguez, a money launderer from a Colombian cocaine cartel, accused Félix Rodríguez of soliciting $10M for use for other off-the-books purposes. John Kerry leaked this information to the media, later apologizing (Ramon Milian failed a lie detector test). However, the actions of Rodríguez can hardly be called spotless. He played an important role in the Iran-Contra scandal, and his testimony came perilously close to implicating George H.W. Bush in the scandal. This issue was solved by a pardon.
He received an Intelligence Star for Valor from the CIA, and Crosses for Gallantry from the Republic of South Vietnam. Another nicety was a handwritten Christmas note from George H.W. Bush on 23 December 1988: "Good luck... May 1989 be calmer than 1988." What this is specifically refers to is unknown.
Though ostensibly retired, in 2005 he stated the CIA's intention to "bring about a change in Venezuela" (referring to the intended removal of Hugo Chavez). Father: (store owner) Mother: (d.) Wife: (married, one son, one daughter)
