Diane Sawyer AKA Lila Diana Sawyer Born: 22-Dec-1945 Birthplace: Glasgow, KY
Gender: Female Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Journalist Nationality: United States Executive summary: Good Morning America After winning the America's Junior Miss pageant in 1963 and earning her English degree at Wellesley College, Diane Sawyer began her TV news career as the weather girl at WLKY-TV: "I did the weather for awhile in Louisville, Kentucky. Most memorably, the days of the cone bras... You go back and you look at my old weathercasts, and that's all you can see is like these blinking headlights. It was so awful."
After several years, Sawyer left her television employment for government service. She joined the Nixon White House on the staff of press secretary Ron Ziegler, working as a press aide from 1970 until Nixon was forced to step down in 1974. Even after the resignation, Sawyer stayed on and helped the unindicted co-conspirator assemble his memoirs on his compound in San Clemente, California. Rumors abound of physical intimacy with Nixon (who she still admires to this day), but this is probably nothing more than wishful thinking.
Sawyer returned to television news in 1978, joining the CBS network in Washington, DC. There she co-hosted the Morning News with Charles Kuralt and eventually wound up on 60 Minutes. Later she defected to ABC, where she hosted Good Morning America, 20/20, PrimeTime Live, and World News Tonight. Sawyer has garnered a reputation for tabloidish interviews, engaging newsmakers like Britney Spears and the Pets.com sock puppet. During an extremely informative April 1990 discussion with Marla Maples, Sawyer inquired about her future husband Donald Trump: "Was he the best sex you've ever had?" She practically badgered the Dixie Chicks for an apology after Natalie Maines announced that the band was "ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas".
During an online interview with Sawyer, she was asked by a wannabe journalist: "What steps do you take to make your news more interesting and appealing to the viewers?" The network news anchor helpfully offered her approach: "I think the language you use, the writing is everything. Let me give you an example: This is a committee meeting which is very important politically. Or: This is a political time bomb -- disguised as another government meeting. One might get your attention... One almost certainly won't." Father: E. P. Sawyer Mother: Jean W.
